Obituary from the Houston Chronicle, December 20, 1999:

Glenn D. Ward, 60, born December 19, 1939, passed away Sunday, December 19, 1999 in Webster, Texas.  Glenn served his country in the United States Marine Corp.  He also worked as a movie projectionist in Houston for many years, was active in the IATSE (local 279), and enjoyed ham radio as a lifetime hobby.  Glenn was well known for his big heart and generosity - he gave whatever he could give.  Glenn was always willing to help friends and would literally give you the shirt off his back.  He is loved by many friends and relatives.  Glenn is survived by his parents, Pearl and Verma Ward; four children, Paul, Susanna, Courtney, and Dale; five grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Ed Moseley; brother, James D. Ward; and numerous nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, December 21, 1999 at Forest Park East Funeral Home.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday , December 22, 1999 at Forest Park East Chapel, 21260 Gulf Freeway, tel 332-3111.

I first met Glenn when he was recuperating from a serious illness. He couldn't go very far from the nursing home, so he gathered friends around the radio every day. Glenn always had a joke or a story to brighten the day; often the joke was on him. He was a generous ham, and although he didn't have much, he would give the shirt off his back to help someone else. Glenn's first love, after ham radio, was cooking; the bigger the crowd, the better. Glenn was my Elmer and good friend. We met in 1973 at Madison Electronics in Houston when I was an SWL.....he encouraged me to pursue my amateur ticket. Glenn sold me my first rig...a Swan 400 for $40. We enjoyed several years of friendship and hamming together with Dave and Don Busick of Houston. Thanks Glenn.....Peace to you.  Jim Geer - WB5LXZ

Glenn was my Elmer when I lived in Houston, Texas. I had been an active SWL when we met at Madison Electronics...became friends and with his encouragement and coaching the theory, code and license requirements...I passed the novice exam. Glenn then acquired for me a Swan 400 transceiver for $40. We enjoyed several years of Field day gatherings at his family beach house as well as restoring and trading many radios.
